Skis · Binding Compatibility · Hybrid (Alpine + Touring)

I split my time between resort skiing and backcountry touring. Should I look for skis with hybrid binding compatibility?

Hybrid binding compatibility means the ski is reinforced to safely accept both traditional alpine bindings and touring (tech/pin) bindings. This is ideal if you want one ski that can handle both in-bounds laps and uphill travel, letting you mount whichever binding style matches your plans for the day.

Without hybrid compatibility, you'd typically need separate skis for resort and backcountry—or risk mounting touring bindings on a ski not built to handle the different forces and mounting patterns they require. Hybrid skis solve this by reinforcing the mounting area to handle either system securely.

The main trade-off is that the reinforced mounting area can add a small amount of weight compared to a dedicated touring ski. But for most skiers who don't want to buy and maintain two setups, that's a worthwhile compromise for the versatility you gain.
