Can my child just wear an adult XS knee pad?
It is not recommended. Adult XS pads are built for adult leg proportions and often slide down or rotate on a child's leg, leaving the knee unprotected during a fall. Youth-specific pads have tailored grip systems and proportions for smaller legs.

If the straps are maxed out, the pad leaves deep red marks on the skin, or the kneecap is not centered in the protective zone when the pad is on, it is time to size up. A pad that is too small leaves the edges of the knee exposed.
Read answer →03Are hard shell knee pads necessary for junior racers?
For gate training and GS/Slalom racing, yes. Hard shells protect against direct impacts from gates, which can cause severe bruising. For general free-skiing, soft shells or hybrids are much more comfortable and usually sufficient.

Most youth knee pads are designed as low-profile under-layer protection. However, check the thickness; pads over 15mm may feel tight under race suits or slim-fit ski pants. Try them on with the actual ski pants before hitting the slopes.

Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent and air dry completely. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as this degrades the foam padding and ruins the elastic straps.
